Space saving garden ideas for smaller gardens.

Your garden is possibly the only piece of green covered land that you own. Hopefully it is green and maturing nicely. If it's not, then well, that's a tiny problem. A beautiful green garden should be at the heart of any home, especially a family one. Kids running around kicking a ball, playing hide and seek or even digging for 'treasure' (their imagination does run wild doesn't it) does them the world of good in comparison to sitting inside watching cartoons.

The garden should be a place for family barbecues in the summer months; building a snowman in the winter, raking leavs in autumn and watching the flowers start to grow in spring. But all this is easier said than done. Space is often an issue. Many people don't have a garden that is the size they would prefer, often with it being on the small side. Most modern homes don't cater for larger gardens anymore, but there are work around you can put in place to maximise the space you have. If you already have a wonderful looking garden that is furnished in the exact way you want, then you're one of the lucky ones. Many spend a lot of time making their house a home but tend to neglect and forget about the outside of the property too. If you are one of the latter then please take into account other considerations when building your perfect garden.

Spaces saving garden deisgns are all the range these days as people don't have the space they used to. With people buying more and more items there is an increasing need for space, that with the combination of affordable housing meaning that garden sizes are being reduced all the time so that another house can be added to the building site. This means that the amount of actual land you own for creating a beautiful garden is limited. So what can be done and what do we here suggest?

1. Inside planting. If you have a good number of windowsills that could benefit from potted plants then please make the most of it! They will brighten up your house whilst bringing the outside inside. People will comment on how lovely they are and they will also make you feel better too.

2. Hanging Baskets. So you have a house, right? Why not hang some baskets on some walls? Outside of course and around the back or the front. They will add splashes of colour and look fantastic when the summer comes round.

3. Windowboxes. Adding instant impact to what the outside of your house looks like. Windowbaskets can be easily maintained throughout the year and fill with flowers when the summer months spring up.

4. Corner cropping. A ready made raised bed that is triangular in shape is perfect for a lot of gardens that have some free space in a corner. All you need is the know how to assemble it and add some top soil, and you're good to go.

5. A wall of flowers. Garden planters can be bought that are stackable and could be positioned against a wall, creating a wall of colour for your garden. It's something to think about at least.

6. A garden mirror. Creating the sense of almost double the space you have is easy with a garden mirror. Simply put it at the end of the garden and the optical illusion will take place, seemingly making your garden twice as long!
